NTT working repairs to damaged phone lines

Date Posted: 2007-07-17

Some 140 NTT crews are still working to restore phone services knocked out by Typhoon May-Li.

More than 1,200 families and businesses remained without telephone service as of 8 am Tuesday, four days after the super typhoon raced across Okinawa. NTT officials say service was cut to more than 3,200 telephone lines, but crews working feverishly through the weekend and yesterday have restored approximately 2,000 lines.

An NTT official says the company wants the remaining lines repaired quickly, but could not give an exact timeline for complete restoration of service.
