Irate TV cameraman assaults taxi driver

Date Posted: 2007-07-16

A local television cameraman who beat up a taxi driver after becoming disgruntled by the man’s driving techniques, is being charged for the incident.

The 36-year-old cameraman with a radio and television broadcasting company first argued with the taxi driver in downtown Naha City, asking “Don’t you know about the rules of traffic? The driver told Satoru Uchima he did, and then said “You are the one who missed the rules, not me.”

The dispute spilled out from the taxi, with the argument turning violent. Uchima admitted to police “Yes, I did kick the taxi and beat him. Sorry, but yes, I did.” The driver was treated for a split lip. Uchima kicked out the front window of the taxi.

A television company executive has apologized for his employee’s actions, and promised “I will give advice to all my employees so it never happens again.” He has promised full cooperation with police, as well as an internal investigation.
