Sleek bodybuilders flex muscles

It's often called an art, a science and even a sport.

Bodybuilders are putting themselves on display Sunday, preening and posing at the Far East Bodybuilding Competition at Camp Foster. Dozens of well toned competitors will vie for top honors in six menís divisions and three womenís classes ranging from bantamweight to heavyweight. Bodybuilders will be judged on presentation, muscular development and symmetry.

Dozens of competitors from throughout the Pacific will descend on Butler Theater at Camp Foster for this yearís event, sponsored by the Gunners Fitness Center staff. Their hundreds of hours of sweat and pain, intense concentration and dedication will be exhibited during the competition, which begins at 6 p.m. The Far East Bodybuilding Competition, now in its twelfth year, is one of the largest and oldest bodybuilding competitions on Okinawa.

Menís divisions include bantamweight 65kg/143lbs, lightweight 70kg/154lbs, light middleweight 75kg/165lbs, middleweight 80kg/176lbs, light-heavyweight 90kg/198lbs, and heavyweight over 90kg/198lbs. On the ladies side, competitors will shoot for victory in lightweight 52kg/114.4lbs, middleweight 57kg/125.4lbs and heavyweight over 57kg/125.4lbs divisions.

The public is invited to the Far East Bodybuilding Competition. Doors open at 6 p.m.
