New Ishigaki Airport pushed back againDate Posted: 2007-07-11 Some 679 landowners continue their holdout against selling the land needed to build the new airport. The Okinawa Prefecture New Ishigaki Airport Construction Promotion Committee has now met, and decided to pursue legal action against the landowners. Okinawa’s Governor, Hirokazu Nakaima, issued a warning months ago to landowners, telling them he’ll use the Land Expropriation Law to force the sales. Since then, officials have held meetings in Ishigaki City explaining the government position to landowners. Prefecture officials say they are confident they’ll have the necessary paperwork to complete the legal process and begin expropriation proceedings, although they say it could take until 2009 to complete the buyouts. The new Ishigaki Airport was targeted for completion in 2013, but that date is expected to be readjusted. |
