Cell phone Internet users billed for bogus services

Date Posted: 2002-08-01

Many users of NTT DoCoMo's i-Shot Internet services have been wrongly billed for services they never used. Consumer advocates say that the company's computers have continued to send the invoices to consumers even after they had contacted the operator and proved that they never requested the service nor used it. According to a company spokesman, the invoices were sent to more than two million people nation wide.

The spokesman said that the company as had difficulty at pinpointing the problem with their billing system. In most cases the customers got an invoice charging them for sending digital pictures to and from their cell phones, even though in many cases they had not subscribed to the service.

DoCoMo officials urge their customers to check their invoices before paying, and contact the company if there's anything that they think should not be there.
