International hotel group bows out of Ginowan dealDate Posted: 2007-06-21 Intercontinental Hotels Group had announced plans to build a hotel on the site, but now says “No, we don’t come to Okinawa.” Tsutsumi Shuuji, President of Tokyo Hospitality Network Company, which handles IHG hotels in Japan, says “it is because Intercontinental Hotels Group has changed its brand strategy and company marketing.” Shuuji says, however, “we are sure going to bring nice hotels to Okianwa. Don’t give up yet.” He said IHG was going to begin construction work last Fall, and open the hotel in 2009, but plans change. Intercontinental Hotels Group has linked with the All Nippon Airways Hotels, and Shuuri says its capital funds and financing are tied up with Manza Beach Hotel, Okinawa Harborview Hotel and Ishigaki Jima ANA Hotel. He says the three hotels have drained capital reserves to the point it cannot currently fund any new hotels. Shuuji says “We re going to have discussions with two other operating companies about a new hotel project with the same capacity as IHG. A second area developer, Real Estate Development Joint Corporation, is considering jumping into the Ginowan location. The company’s General Manager, Toshinobu Ouno, tells Ginowan City Mayor Yoichi Iha “our group is going to start construction by December of this year, and open a hotel in Summer 2008.” He said the hotel will cater to long term residence guests, and will have a shopping mall included. “That will be great,” said Iha. “I hope the planning will be on time for the planned opening. It will be good for citizens.” |
