No IPOD needed for this workoutDate Posted: 2007-06-21 ![]() ![]() ![]() The workout has been super, sweat dripping from the brow, and the time just flew by. But, is this a martial art, a dance, a game? Capoeira is different, and it works. Benjamin Moriniere is head instructor at Capoeira Academy Okinawa, which officially opens its doors June 29th. “Capoeira combines every part of the human senses,” Moriniere explains. “It’s art, music, martial arts, fitness, play, acrobatics and much more.” He says the new academy’s curriculum will offer student the opportunity to get into shape while gaining speed, balance, agility, power and cardio endurance. It all happens, according to Morieniere, by blending martial arts, dance and muscle strength and endurance drills. The Capoeira Academy will be hosting a grand opening weekend to showcase its program, complete with a public exhibition at Spice Island Café in Mihama. Performing will be Terrieros Professional Brazilian Show Team, led by teacher Sucuri, a Capoeira master. A 20-year performing veteran and President of My LifeStyle Corporation in Tokyo, he’s the Capoeira Zoador Federation. Doors for the show open at 10 p.m. on Friday the 29th, with pre-event tickets ¥2,500. Tickets will be ¥3,000 at the door. Ticket information is available on the web, www.capoeira-okinawa.com, while anyone with a question may call (098) 936-8883. |
