Drunk GI smashes alcohol test unit

Date Posted: 2007-06-08

An accident reported on Route 330 early Saturday quickly brought police to the scene near Futenma Marine Corps Air Station.

While investigating, another car passed, went out of control, and crashed into a roadside stone wall close by. Police say they raced to the car, where they found an American stationed at Futenma Air Station. They say David Serano was drunk, and the smell of alcohol was present.

Removing the 20-year-old from the car, they took him to a patrol car and began administering an alcohol check. Suddenly, Serano reportedly began attacking and smashing the equipment. “Hey, what are you doing?” asked a policeman. The police investigation report shows Serano denied the charges, telling officers “No, I’m not a drunken driver. Police can’t prove anything. Police are lying.”

Serano allegedly claims “They couldn’t take an alcohol measurement from me. I’m not drunk. They are lying.” He also insisted “I didn’t break their equipment.” Officers say Serano also denied being in an accident.
