Local sculptor exhibits works on effects of war

Date Posted: 2007-06-01

Minoru Kinjo says he never wants to see another war, and has dedicated ten years of his life to creating an artwork that graphically depicts the ravages of conflict.

The local Yomitan Village sculptor has a 100-meter long exhibit showing the evacuations of citizens during the Battle of Okinawa, as well as the forced self-suicides. He says the “memories are coming back” and hopes his ‘War and Humans’ exhibition will make residents and visitors more aware of the evils of war.

“I hope these sculptures will give Okinawan children a message about war,” he says. “This place is the one to best think about ‘what is ware’ and what we should tell our future generations.” Kinjo’s works are on display at the old Yomitan Auxiliary Airfield, recently returned by the American military. The project, sponsored by the Executive Committee of the War and Humans Committee, will be on public display until June 24th.
