Fiscal 2002 budget down 2.2 percent from last year

Date Posted: 2002-01-31

The Prefectural General Affairs Department on Jan. 22 issued a preliminary notification to all governmental entities in Okinawa regarding budget allocations for fiscal 2002. Reflecting a reduction in tax revenue and a national policy cutting large-scale government projects, the total general account amounts to approximately ¥633 billion, a 2.2 percent decrease from last year. Included within the figures, however, was a new information technology (IT) budget, part of a plan geared towards promoting Okinawa’s economic independence. Final allocations will be announced on Feb. 4, allowing entities more time to negotiate their share of the proposed budget.
