Rock hard and get hot at Magma

Date Posted: 2007-05-18

Hardcore rock and punk rock music lovers are in for a treat next weekend as the world’s most powerful rock festival pulsates at Namura Hall in Matsuyama, Naha City.

More than a dozen bands from the U.S., Japan and Okinawa will rock the audience at the May 26th marathon concert, which opens at 11 am, and begins at 12 pm. The performers’ names read like a who’s who listing of the world’s hottest rock acts.

Murphy’s Law, H2O, Madball and Underdog are coming from New York. Japanese bands Aggressive Dogs, All for Meal, Smash Raid and Stackers will all be there, as will Okinawan bands Bleach and Jigokuguruma. Add to that the bands Bouncing Souls, Sick of It All from Yokohama City, Hazen Street, Harley’s War, All for Meal and Big Hand Family, and you’ve all the ingredients for a hard-driving afternoon of heavy rock.

Tickets are ¥5,800 in advance and ¥7,000 at the door. Tickets and are available at Kadena ITT, and at Lawson Tickets. Organizers say everyone will be searched at the door, and ask concert goers not to bring food, drinks, recording devices, umbrellas, plastic mats, chairs, fireworks or other flammable items. Event information is available online at www.magma2007.com/en/news.html, or http://myspace.com/magma2007.

Special air statues created by Joe Simko of Sweetrot Productions will be a part of the scorching event. Two seven-meter high air statues of his characters Speyeder and Sphazard have been created exclusively for the Magma concert. Organizers credit the Okinawa Tourism Development Association, Ginowan organizations, and NPO-Okinawa Development leaders Michael Oshiro and Mike Holland for bringing the Magma Concert to Okinawa.

Concert organizers are looking for volunteers to aid with the project. Team Magma needs people to help with posters and flyers, and with performing interpreter-translator duties. Volunteers must be over the age of 16, and have a good command of Japanese and English languages. Applications can be filed by email at info@magma2007.com.

A second Magma Concert is set for Yokohama’s Cultural Gymnasium on June 2nd.
