Sam's restaurants to honor mothers

Date Posted: 2007-05-11

Mother’s Day is coming up May 13th, and Sam’s restaurants on Okinawa are cranking up special entrees to pay homage.

The Mother’s Day holiday, said to have evolved from a custom of mother worship in ancient Greece, then copied by Americans from the British after the U.S. civil war, is a secular celebration with some ties to religious practices.

Three Sam’s restaurants on the island are offering the dinner specials May 11th through 14th. Awase Sam’s by the Sea features charbroiled swordfish and filet mignon for ¥2,850, Oroku Sam’s By the Sea will present a Sirloin Steak Verde, Italian Genova style, for ¥2,850, and Sam’s Cafehas pan fried red snapper topped with crab stuffing and tenderloin steak for ¥2,40.
