Frustrated Nago City man strangles elderly mother

Date Posted: 2007-04-20

An 84-year-old widow was murdered by her son in Nago City after he became “tired of taking care of her”.

Masaru Kanemoto called police early Saturday morning to tell them “I killed my mother.” Police and paramedics responding to the residence found the woman, Shizue Kanemoto, laying on the floor, a necktie coiled around her neck. She was pronounced dead on arrival at a Nago City hospital.

The elderly woman, who suffered senile dementia, was being cared for by Masaru. Masaru told police investigators he was in a deep sleep when his mother began beating him with her walking stick, telling him to wake up. “Why did you wake me up?” he reportedly asked her angrily. Masaru admitted taking his necktie, wrapping it around her neck and strangling her.

Neighbors were both shocked and not surprised. Some said he’d told them “I’ve gotten very tired of taking care of my mother”, while others said “We’ve seen them and he was taking good care of her, taking her hand for walking”.
