MOS Burger mixing Its burger recipes

Date Posted: 2007-04-20

A major Japanese burger chain is tackling the international giant.

After losing ground in the hamburger market, MOS Burger says it is incorporating new ingredients into its hamburgers to improve the flavors. It will use a mixture of ground beef and pork in its most popular MOS Burger and Teriyaki Burger, replacing the full Australian beef patties used the past ten years.

The move brings MOS Burger full circle, returning to a beef-pork patty it had used from its initial opening in 1972 until 1997, when 100% beef patties became the industry standard.

MOS President Atsushi Sakurada says the switch will “get us back to our origins”, noting the beef-only patties made it difficult to be different from the competition. In comparison with McDonalds, which has seen a customer increase over the past year, MOS had dropped five percent.

Sakurada also announced MOS will introduce coupons in its stores, a move he says will attract more women as repeat customers. “We have to try new things,” he said, “because there’s a difference between our way and what customers want.”
