Fujiya products back on Lawson shelves

Date Posted: 2007-04-20

Confectioner Fujiya Company products are now returned to Lawson convenience store shelves, three months after being pulled because of questions about their safety.

Lawson, with its 8,400 stores across Japan, is the first major chain to resume carrying the Fujiya candy and bakery goods. Scandal rocked Fujiya in January after it was discovered using expired ingredients. Lawson and Fujiya’s president met a week ago, and Lawson accepted the upgraded hygienic controls developed by the U.S. Lawson officials also inspected Fujiya’s factories.

A second convenience store giant, Family Mart Co., has also conducted independent inspections of Fujiya’s facilities, and is expected to resume selling its products in the near future.
