Traditional Japanese kimonos showcased at weekend sale

Date Posted: 2007-04-20

Opportunities to own an authentic, traditional Japanese kimono have never been better.

The rich, colorful kimonos will be offered next weekend at both Kadena Air Base and off base at the Okinawa Convention Center. The sale by the Kimono Recycling Shop from Tokyo is selling the kimonos and obi at reasonable prices. The second hand kimonos, says a company spokesman, look brand new. They are available in both oriental and vintage styles.

The ninth annual event will be April 27th and 28th at the Kadena Air Base Officers Club, and on the 29th at the Okinawa Convention Center in Ginowan. The used kimonos are all clean and in excellent condition. They were previously used in wedding halls and rental shops, and are being sold at a fraction of the costs of a new kimono. The Kadena sale will run 9am~6pm Friday the 27th and 9am~5pm Saturday the 28th. Visa and Master Card credit cards will be accepted.

The sale moves to the Convention Center Sunday the 29th from 9am~7pm, and wraps up Monday 9am~6pm. Silk kimonos in styles for both married and single women, as well as obi belts for formal dress and town wear, will be on sale.

The sale will also offer washable kimonos and accessories.
