Fundraisers to promote 2007 Project Graduation

Date Posted: 2007-04-20

Project Graduation, a fun-filled all-night party for graduating high school seniors at Kubasaki High School, is now raising money to make the overnight event a success.

Organizers are planning a pair of fundraisers and bazaar to make the chaperoned, drug-and-alcohol-free celebration a memorable event for the students. A special sale is already scheduled for next weekend at Oriental Place in Chatan, where the owner has pledged 10% of sales going to the school event.

Yuki Chan of Oriental Place, which specializes in Chinese antiques and gifts, promises the three-day sale April 27~29 will have something for everyone, at reasonable prices. Oriental Place is located on Highway 23, just east of Highway 58, in Chatan. The store is open 10am~5pm Monday through Saturdays and noon~5pm Sundays. Oriental Place is closed on Tuesdays.

A bazaar is set for May 19~20 in the Kubasaki High School gymnasium to generate more money for the lock-in event, where graduating seniors will spend the night dancing, making music videos, bowling, swimming and watching movies. Organizer Beth Parker says the bazaar will feature more than 20 local and off-island vendors with Chinese and Persian rugs, Chinese and Tibetan antiques and reproductions, Teak furniture, jewelry and professional photos. There will also be original artwork, pottery and oriental gifts.
