New basketball team to test local playersDate Posted: 2007-03-29 The Okinawa-based team is poised to join the Japan Professional Basketball League in November, and is holding tryouts for local hopefuls on Saturday. The team is inviting local hoops players to register, play this weekend, and try for a position on the new squad. The Saturday game, which is free and open to the public, begins at 1pm at Ginowan City Athletic Hall. Team officials say the game will give players a chance to demonstrate their strengths, which they will compare against potential mainland players seeking to play for Okinawa. A strength test, skills test and examination will be part of the demonstration game. Potential players must pay ¥5,250 to register. Information on applying is available at the team website, www.okinawa-basketball.jp. |
