New Haneda runway construction to beginDate Posted: 2007-03-16 Compensation talks with fishermen are almost complete, says the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. The expansion project at Haneda give the capital city’s airport a new 2,500 meter runway. The new runway will raise the take offs and landing capacity to 80 aircraft per hour. Officials say the airport should be done in early 2010, a few months behind the earlier projected 2009 completion date. Haneda expects to increase the number of domestic flights once the new runway is operational, and hopes to boost the number of international flights within the region. Haneda is already operating flights to and from Korea’s Gimpo Airport in Seoul. Construction, which also includes land reclamation from Tokyo Bay, is expected to take three years to complete. |
