Japanese living longer, women lead the world

Date Posted: 2007-03-08

A new study shows Japanese are living longer than in 2000.

The life expectancy of Japanese women has risen to 85.52 years, while men are now living to be 78.56 years of age. The study, conducted in 2005, shows the Japanese are living a few months longer than when last measured.

While it is often difficult to compare various countries because of differing statistical analysis methods, government officials say Japanese women are living longest of any in the world. Hong Kong and Spain women fall in line behind Japan.

Men are ranked fourth worldwide, slipping slightly. Men from Hong Kong, Iceland and Switzerland are outliving Japanese.
