Head-on car crash critically injures two

Date Posted: 2007-01-25

A Sunday morning collision by two cars on Highway 58 at Onna Village has injured three people, two of them critically.

Ishikawa City police say a northbound sedan driven by a 27-year-old man during a rainstorm went out of control on the wet pavement and veered into the southbound lane, crashing into a smaller vehicle. The driver and a 17-year-old passenger were in the second vehicle. Police believe the man was on the highway driving to work.

The large sedan driver is in a coma with brain and other head trauma, as well as chest injuries. The 54-year-old woman driving the second car is also unconscious in the hospital. She is listed in critical condition, too. Her son is in serious condition with head injuries after being unconscious for more than a day after the crash.

The teenager told police his mother was taking him to the airport, where he was to board a flight to the mainland to begin a new job.
