Gyudon boosts Yoshinoya sales

Date Posted: 2007-01-12

Seasoned American beef served in a rice bowl is responsible for a significant December revenues increase to Yoshinoya D & C Company.

Gyudon, returning to Yoshinoya’s menu on December 1st after a nearly two-year absence, is credited with boosting the fast food restaurant chain’s revenues by 19.3%. Gyudon had been dropped from menus in February 2004, after the mad cow disease scare caused Japanese officials to block American beef imports.

Yoshinoya officials say the customer level increased 17.4% in December, a fourth consecutive positive month for the company.

The most popular Yoshinoya dish, Gyudon, returned to the menu September 18th, but was offered only five days a month. The beef dish sales were extended to a few hours daily in December.
