Political parties choosing 2007 election candidates

Date Posted: 2007-01-08

Government and opposition political parties are wasting no time as the new year unfolds, choosing candidates for a pair of important 2007 elections.

The House of Council replacement election is set for April, followed in July by the actual House of Council election. The ruling Liberal Democratic Party has chosen Kounoske Kokuba, Noriaki Kakazu, Seizen Hokama and Kenjiro Nishida as candidates for the April replacement election.

The local opposition parties have posted Tokushin Yamauchi, Deny Tamaki and Noboru Akamine for the April election.

Junshiro Nishime is the government party’s candidate for the July House of Councilors election, while the opposition is putting its stock in Keiko Itokazu, who lost the Gubernatorial election in November to Hirokazu Nakaima. She has promised the opposition leaders a decision by the end of January.
