Okinawa’s long, hot summer continues and with it the numerous colorful festivals being conducted across the island. One of the largest, the 26th annual Ginowan Hagoromo Festival, is this weekend. According to organizers, the festival will enhance friendship and harmony among local residents and visitors. The festival will be Saturday and Sunday at Ginowan Kaihin Park, located next to the Okinawa Convention Center.

Opening ceremonies are 4 p.m. Saturday, followed by several Eisa performances by various citizens’ groups. A Ryukyu Kingdom costume parade brings historical color to the events. Live concert and fireworks will cap Saturday’s events. Again on Sunday there will be more Eisa dancing and a large fireworks display starting at 9:10 p.m. at Tropical Beach. Plenty of games, food and cold beverages are available at the numerous booths on the festival grounds.
