Police nab two teens after motorbike chase

Date Posted: 2006-12-18

A 35-minute chase in the early hours of Monday had Naha City Police scurrying to stop a fleeing motorbike.

The pursuit began after police observed the motorbike driving in the Higashimachi area, on the Meiji Bridge near Onoyama Park, with the driver without a helmet. Ordered the stop, the driver fled, with police close behind. The biker and the cop zig-zagged through Naha City, then to Urasoe City’s Ohira area, where police finally apprehended two teenage girls.

The girls, both 15 years of age, were without helmets, and had no driver licenses. The girl driving the large 400cc motorbike says “we rented it from a friend”. Police say she was drunk. She told officers she had purchased beers and strong drink from a convenience store near Onoyama Park. The girls offered no explanation for being on the streets at 4am.

Police say they are now investigating the convenience store, which is in trouble for selling alcohol to a teenager.
