Date Posted: 2006-12-01

With the holiday season approaching, the Japanese Accident Insurance Association is taking steps to encourage drivers not to drink.

The new program designates drivers who “Pledge not to drive drunk”. The Association has created sticker seals to be worn by on drivers’ chest, letting izakaya and restaurant owners and bartenders know the individual is driving and should not be served alcoholic beverages.

“We believe the seal will help, and remind drivers not to drink,” says an Association official. “We want drivers to think ‘I am driving’ as they are celebrating the holidays.” The sticker seals have been distributed to restaurants, Izakayas, and snacks, together with an instruction manual. Businesses wanting to participate in the program can get the sticker seals by calling 098-862-8363.
