Lucky 13 to win in holiday contest

Date Posted: 2006-12-01

A ’12 Days of Christmas’ contest is under way on Okinawa, with thirteen lucky members of the Department of Defense community set to become winners.

Sponsored by Marine Corps Community Services, American Forces Network station Wave89 and Yellow Box Furniture, the contest will select 12 to win shopping sprees at Yellow Box. A grand prize winner will win a bedroom set valued at up to $5,000.

Readers and listeners participate by completing an entry form found in Okinawa Marine newspaper, explaining why a person is deserving of new furniture. A contest official says examples of deserving deeds would include working with charities, helping friends in times of need, mentoring children, volunteering in DODDS school and establishing community outreach programs. Wave89 deejays will be calling individual nominees to get information, and a judge will choose the most deserving deed as winner of the day.

The contest is open to service members, their family members, and U.S. government employees. All participants must be 18, and must have a valid SOFA ID Card. Complete contest rules are available at www.mccsokinawa.com.
