Tickets go on sale for Holiday mega lottery

This years Nenmatsu Jumbo Lottery will give the winner 300 million first prize.

Tickets for the year end giant lottery went on sale earlier this week, with dozens queuing at A-Chance Center in front of Mizuho Bank to be first to make a purchase. Ticket window #1 opened one minute early, bringing smiles to waiting customers.

The head of BNC Naha branch, which manages the A-Chance Center and other facilities, says Im expecting to sell eight million lottery tickets in Okinawa this year. Mr. Obayashi points out customers prefer lining up at window #1, believing it brings good luck.

Similar lines formed in front of Nishi Ginza Department Chance Center in Tokyo, where the first customer had been waiting for ten hours. Im gonna think about what I will buy when I win, he told the cashier. Im gonna win.

A total of 74 first prizes worth 200 million each, and 296 second prizes valued at 100 million each, are at stake. Tickets are on sale through December 20th at 135 shops in Okinawa. The drawing will be December 31st.
