Harley bikers stage their festivalBy: Bill Charles Date Posted: 2006-11-25 ![]() ![]() ![]() Thousands of eyes will be staring Sunday as hundreds of the big bikes rumble through Okinawa City in the annual Harley festival. The Gate 2 Fest runs noon to 9pm along Koza Gate Street near Kadena Air Base, with hundreds of bikers from across the island gathering to show off their big machines and entertain the crowd. Opening ceremonies begin at 12:45pm, followed by a half-hour parade at 1:45pm. A bike show tops the events beginning at 2:30pm, with dozens of the Harley Davidson owners giving visitors a close up look at their popular motorcycles. The afternoon festivities, which carry on until 7:30pm, also include street dancing and arm wrestling. The Amateur-Pro Wrestling Contest begins at 5pm. Live bands will entertain starting at 3:30pm, with Heavens Hemp, Approach, Shima Guys, B-trippers, Jet and others making appearances. The music will be on stage at the Gate 2 end of the street, facing Moromi. There will also be taiko drummers performing during the afternoon. Koza Gate Street, more popularly called Gate 2 Street despite the official name change more than a year ago, will be closed to traffic from noon until 9pm. |
