Onna Village site for a new luxury resort hotel

Date Posted: 2006-11-10

A new 11-story luxury resort hotel is to begin construction soon in the Nakama Area of Onna Village.

Chokei Taira, president of Kariyushi Resort, says “we’re going to build a new hotel, to be located near our own hotel, Kariyushi Resort Ocean Spa. The new hotel will be named Okinawa Kariyushi Excess Resort and Spa. It will feature 108 rooms across its 11 floors. The building, with two basement, will have a 408 guest capacity.

The luxury hotel is being designed for the Dankai Generation, a group of wealthy citizens with both money and a willingness to pay for a healthy life, Taira says. It will be totally high class, he adds, citing restaurants on the property, which will feature menus designed with advice from medical doctors.

Okinawa Kariyushi Excess Resort and Spa will employ 120 people, Taira adds, with hiring interviews to be conducted soon.

“Right now in Japan there are more than 700,000 with family money ranging from ¥100,000,000~500,000,000,” Taira points out, “and then there are the people retiring next year. That’s another 7,000,000 people, from which forecasts are that at least 40,000 will move to Okinwa.” He says people need a luxurious spot, and his hotel will fill that need. Rooms will each be 60~70 square meters, and the resort will have a spa, swimming pools, executive meeting rooms, medical facilities and more.

Taira predicts the resort will attract 65,000 guests within five years.
