Nanjou City house fire kills two people

Date Posted: 2006-11-10

An early morning fire ripped through a Tamagusuku area home early Monday morning, killing two persons while injuring a third.

Fanned by high gusting winds, the flames raced through the older two-story home, destroying the first floor completely before fire fighters could arrive. Neighbors spotted the fire and called the report.

A 73-year-old woman, Kikuko, suffered leg injuries in the blaze. The woman lived in the home with her three children. She was on the second floor, and had escaped to a bathroom, where she hid until rescued by firefighters.

The two bodies, burned nearly beyond recognition, are believed to be those of a son and daughter. “Their family was very friendly, and each person was good and tender,” said a neighbor.

Other neighbors said ”it was very windy and the fire spread over the house so quickly, we couldn’t do anything.” Police investigators say they don’t know yet what caused the fire.
