Okinawa going to the dogs December 2-3Date Posted: 2006-11-10 ![]() ‘D1 Pic’ is a festival making its debut in Chatan in early December. The event takes place at an athletic field at Chatan Park. The two-day festival is sponsored by the Chatan Town Chamber of Commerce. The festival has numerous events scheduled, including performances by sleigh dogs, a tail-wagging contest, and a demonstration by a police dog. A 50-meter race will be staged to determine whose dog earns the title of ‘fastest dog on Okinawa’. All breeds are eligible to participate. Technical school students will groom animals in a dog trimming contest, while other students will compete in a doggie fashion show. The dog trimming event will determine which student gives the best haircut, while the fashion show will feature dog clothes designed by students. Two noted animal experts will be on hand to observe. Masanori Hata, founder of Mutsugoro Animal Kingdom in Tokyo, and Osamu Narumi, a dog training instructor, will be answer questions from visitors. Admission to the D1 Pic festival is free. Dog owners wanting to enter their animals in the competitions may register by November 30th. Details needed are dog’s name, gender, age, breed and certificate of inoculation.
