Okinawa tops Japan in LP gas fueled carsDate Posted: 2006-10-13 The Car Inspection Registration Association says that, as of June, 290,000 LP gas fueled cars are operating in the country. More than 14% of those vehicles are in Okinawa, the nation’s leader. Tokyo ranks second in the number of LP gas vehicles, with Osaka third. Government owned and operated cars, and taxis, are the primary LP gas vehicle operators, but that’s changing. Increasingly, more private citizens are switching to the less expensive LP gas cars, which are also more environmentally friendly. An association official says many private citizens are snapping up used taxis and switching them to personal use. The official says many companies and business groups are making the move to LP gas vehicles as well, and predicts the numbers will rise further if oil prices do not begin dipping. |
