Baby dies after being left in carDate Posted: 2006-10-13 The baby was discovered in his car seat more than five hours later by his mother. The child was pronounced dead at a Nago hospital after resuscitation efforts by doctors failed. The baby’s father, a police officer, put the child in his car seat in the back bench of the eight-passenger van, then drove to work at the police station. Normally, police say, the officer then took the baby to a nursery within the police station. On this day, he forgot, and went to work. Five hours later, about 1:15pm, he returned home. His wife then went to the van, where she found her limp son in his car seat. The police station nursery attendant said “it is regrettable we have lost a precious life,” and called for parents to exercise more attention so “this can never happen again.” The nursery is open 8am~9pm for police officers and workers to leave their children. Police say the nursery is so conscientious, it keeps the children extended hours when parents are tied up with work. Fellow officers describe the father as “worried” and said “he seemed to grow haggard”. |
