Weekend Foster Fest fun set for Parade Deck

Autumn is in the air, and Marine Corps Community Services organizers are expecting the cooler temperatures to attract more participants to this weekendıs Foster Fest.

The annual event runs Saturday from 3~10pm, and Sunday from 1~10pm, at the Parade Deck on Camp Foster. The Foster Fest is open to everyone island-wide, in both civilian and military communities. It features oodles of free, top-notch entertainment, game booths, amusement rides, a Kiddie Land for the children, and enough cultural foods to appease the heartiest appetite.

MCCS officials say the Foster Fest is free, but with prohibitions, though, on pets, bottles, outside alcohol and coolers.

Exciting entertainment targets visitors of all ages is a tradition at Foster Fest, and this yearıs no exception. The lineup includes live bands performing a variety of musical genres, headed by the Rhythm & Blues sounds of recording artist Jon B., whose debut single was ³Something to Love², a duet with Babyface. A talented arranger and producer, Jon Bıs albums have soared to gold status. Also performing is R & B artist Malina Moye, whose sultry voice and skills with a Fender Stratocaster guitar have brought her into the spotlight. Both artists appear courtesy of Armed Forces Entertainment and The USO.

A ŒTruckload of Funı will be given away Saturday at 3pm, with AFN selecting a handful of SOFA personnel from the audience to participate in the contest.

The winner walks away with prizes including a Nissan Terrano, Sherwood Scuba equipment and more. MCCS festival-goers have learned over the years to expect great prizes and giveaways, and this year is no exception.

Sponsors are putting up a seating class upgrade and two pairs of round-trip tickets for two to one of three United Airlines U.S. destinations courtesy of United Airlines. This yearıs Foster Fest is also sponsored in part by Verizon.

Foster Fest is a sports loversı event, too. A Foster Fest Softball Tournament kicks off tomorrow and runs through Sunday at Gunners Fitness Center Softball Fields. Team trophies will be awarded to first, second and third place winners.
