Kimono sale expands to Kadena Air Base

Date Posted: 2006-09-29

Traditional Japanese kimonos will be available at special sales both on base and downtown early next month.

A bargain sale on used kimonos will be held at the Kadena Officers Club Thursday and Friday, October 5~6, and at the Okinawa Convention Center Saturday, Sunday and Monday, October 7~9.

The Kimono Recycling Shop from Tokyo is offering the kimonos and obi at reasonable prices.

A company spokesman says the second hand kimonos look brand new, and notes they’re available both in oriental style or a vintage style. The annual sale is now in its eighth year on Okinawa, but this year is bringing the event to Kadena Air Base. Both Visa and Master Card credit cards will be accepted at the sale.

The Kadena sale runs 10am~6pm on October 5th, and 10am~5pm on the 6th. At the Convention Center in Ginowan City, doors open at noon and run until 7pm on Saturday, October 7th, from 10am~7pm on Sunday, and 10am~6pm on Monday.

The used kimonos are all clean and in excellent condition, having been in wedding halls and rental shops. The sale prices are a fraction of the cost of a new kimono. Silk kimonos in styles both for married and single women, obi belts for formal dress and town wear, and washable kimonos and accessories will be on sale.
