Holes-in-one land Okinawa golfer in PGA record booksDate Posted: 2006-09-01 Playing in the Reno-Tahoe Open Golf Tournament, Miyazato lofted two holes-in-one during the same round of golf. The excited 26-year-old told reporters through an interpreter that he planned to party and celebrate, and “drink lots of beer.” Both aces came on par 3 holes. Miyazato used a 4-iron on the 230-yard seventh hole, driving downhill. Five holes later, he used a 7-iron to poke the ball into the cup on the 12th hole of the Montreux Golf and Country Club course. The feats boosted him to a second round six under par 66, putting him only six strokes behind the tournament leader. The Okinawa golfer is LPGA golf sensation Ai Miyazato’s brother. He has earned less than $1 million on the tour, while his sister has tallied four LPGA Top 10 finishes this year. He is scheduled to attend the PGA Qualifying School this Fall. Miyazato didn’t see his balls go in because of rolling greens on the Jack Nicklaus-designed course. He heard the crowd cheers though, and knew he’d done something good. He has signed the two golf balls, and will send them to the World Golf Hall of Fame in St. Augustine, Florida. |
