Anti-smoking move spreads to ANA Okinawa resort hotelDate Posted: 2006-08-11 The ANA Manza Beach Resort and Hotel in Onna Village, one of Okinawa’s best known resorts, is the latest to take note of customer demands. Until now, a third of the hotel resort’s rooms have been non-smoking, but it isn’t enough. A hotel spokesman says there have been so many complaints from non-smoking guests being put into smoking rooms, that they’re making changes. Hotel managers long believed that a majority of smoker rooms were needed, because Japanese are among the heaviest smokers in the world. That’s changing, he says, and more and more Japanese are giving up the habit. To accommodate that trend, Manza Beach is increasing the number of non-smoking rooms to 90% of its total. The changes will take place in April 2007, when the new tourist season begins. A hotel spokesman says the third floor will b e reserved exclusively for smokers, to satisfy their customers who refuse to give up puffing, even on vacation. Manza Beach management says the resort will renovate the third floor and construct more facilities. The front lobby and restaurants, which have been non-smoking designated for years, will remain so. |
