Hit and run motorcycle accident injures teen

Date Posted: 2006-08-03

A high school student riding a motorcycle along Highway 58 in Chatan was struck Sunday by a passing automobile.

The 17-year-old boy suffered a broken leg after being struck by the vehicle. The car fled the scene. Witnesses relayed information to police, describing the vehicle involved.

Police say they stopped a car three kilometers away. The four Americans in the car denied any involvement in the hit and run incident. The driver allegedly refused a police request for a drunk driving test, so he was arrested. Officials say the four are stationed at the Army’s Torii Station.

“I don’t know about the accident at all,” said one American. Police say the car was headed towards Kadena from Ginowan City when it struck the motorcycle in the Kitamae area of Chatan. Another cyclist chased the car and called police.

Still, police say the Americans are adamant. “No, no. It was not us. We don’t know anything.”
