Gasoline prices jump at local service stationsDate Posted: 2006-08-03 Government officials say oil companies have been raising their prices, and stations have little choice but to increase theirs as well. “Original oil prices have been going up, so we need to price up too,” said one company. Esso General, Excon’s Mobile Company have announced the Y6.6 increase at its 83 service station. Ryukyu Oil Company raised its prices Y4.3 per liter August 1st for its 150 stations. Nansei Oil says its prices are still lower, but that it is looking at price hikes. Idemitsu raised its prices Y5.2 per liter, and drivers are not happy. Customers say they don’t want to drive anymore, and that they’re curbing longer trips. High gas prices are simply too much for consumers. The Prefecture Oil Association Chairman says “we don’t want to increase the gas cost price, and we hate it.” He emphasized that even though drivers are crying, “We did our best for the prices, but there’s no other way to stay in business.” |
