Ducklings entertain passers by in downtown Naha CityDate Posted: 2006-07-28 Twelve ducklings hatched several months ago have taken refuge beneath a bridge in downtown Naha City. The ducklings are providing humor and entertainment to city residents visiting a nearby park. The babies look healthy, and never venture far away from their mother. When humans approach the babies, mom quickly races up to chase them away. The father duck has distanced himself from the family action, content to sit nearby and watch. The ducklings are Taiwan Ducks. The parents have made their home beneath the bridge for more than one and a half years. Local residents know and appreciate the ducks, and often feed them. Since the ducklings hatched last month, residents have been watching over them carefully, making sure they’re taken care of. When the typhoon approached Okinawa several weeks ago, everyone in the neighborhood was double checking to insure mom, dad and the 12 kids were okay. They are. |
