The name is new, but so are the owners of Tokyo Dai-ichi Hotel Okinawa Grand Mer Resort.

The Okinawa City hotel celebrates its grand opening Saturday as the new owners unveil the extensive renovations accomplished over the past three months. The hotel, which caters to American military personnel and offers special rates while being TDY/TLA approved, is boasting of its diverse range of services including an indoor swimming pool, a fitness center and sauna, and free internet access.

Tokyo Dai-ichi Hotel Okinawa Grand Mer Resort, purchased by Kato Pleasure Group (KPG) in February, spent more than ¥150,000,000 upgrading the facility, which this weekend introduces its new Dress Diner restaurant, which will serve up a variety of Italian and American fare. The restaurant, which boasts a menu with 55 food items, also will feature a daily luncheon buffet.

Its Waryu Shshi Shuna restaurant specializes in sushi rolls, sashimi and tempura. Sheesah Lounge and Bar features a panoramic view of the Pacific Ocean. Lisa Zimmerman, Sales Assistant Manager, says a 5% discount is offered to restaurant customers showing a military ID card.

Local and military rates are being offered for accommodations. Fuminori Kindaichi, the new General Manager says “we are excited to have the military community come to our hotel, and to experience all the changes we’ve made.”
