Date Posted: 2006-06-23

The Original Harlem Globetrotters are ready to pit their 21,500 hardwood victories up against Okinawa challengers.

The team is performing at six Marine Corps facilities on Okinawa, with free tickets available beginning Monday. The world’s most loved basketball team will put their antics and trick plays on display at Courtney Ironworks Gym, Kinser Sports Complex, Foster Gunners Fitness Center, Hansen House of Pain, Schwab Power Dome Gym, and Futenma Semper Fit Gym.

The Harlem Globetrotters have been entertaining audiences around the world for 80 years, serving as goodwill ambassadors while supporting charities and teaching youngsters lessons in sportsmanship, leadership, citizenship and character. Their unique style has instrumental in basketball adopting the fast break offense, recruiting techniques for scouting players, and even the slam dunk.

With its 21,500-343 win-loss record, the Harlem Globetrotters boasts the best record in the history of professional sports.

The Original Harlem Globetrotters will perform at MCAS Futenma Gym on Friday, July 7th. Dates and times for other performances are being broadcast on AFN Wave80, and on the www.mccsokinawa.com website. The history of the Original Harlem Globetrotters is available on its website, www.harlemglobetrotters.com.
