White Beach getting a new lady admiral

Amphibious Group One is going to have a woman as itís new admiral.

Rear Admiral Carol M. Pottenger has been chosen to take command of the Group, based at White Beach Naval Facility on Okinawa. The Group, the Navyís only forward-deployed amphibious unit, has ships based at Sasebo, in mainland Japan. Pottenger will replace Rear Admiral Victor G. Guillory, according to an announcement by the Chief of Naval Operations, Admiral Mike Mullen.

Pottenger is a Purdue University graduate, with assignments commanding the fast combat support ship USS Bridge. The USS Bridge resupplied ships of ten battle groups supporting Operation Enduring Freedom. Pottenger will be advisor to the U.S. Seventh Fleet on amphibious operations in an area spanning the Western Pacific, across the Indian Ocean and in the Arabian Gulf.
