The show must go on; Kinserfest rescheduled

Date Posted: 2006-06-16

Taking a cue from the weatherman, Marine Corps Community Services officials are putting KinserFest on the calendar for this Saturday and Sunday.

KinserFest was to have been last weekend, but heavy rains blocked the 12th annual event from even getting off the ground. With sunshine in the forecast, KinserFest 2006 will open at 2pm Saturday and be open until 11pm. The festivities take place again Sunday 1~10pm. Crowds of 35,000 or more are predicted for this years events, which will include music, entertainment and food vendors doling out everything from American pizza to takoyaki, corn dogs and yakitori.

KinserFest is free to everyone on Okinawa, and gates to Camp Kinser will be open both days.

Officials say no one will be admitted with pets, outside foods, bottles or coolers. MCCS says its Green Line will operate with special routes to get troops from the outer camps to the festival.

The 3rd Annual Pool O Prizes will be included with KinserFest, beginning with a live AFN broadcast Saturday 2~5pm. Thirty-two specially marked golf balls, each representing a prize, will be in the childrens pool filled with water and 1,000 golf balls. Contestants will be given 89 seconds each to wade through the water in search of prizes.

One lucky winner will receive a free pair of roundtrip tickets from Okinawa to Any United Airlines gateway city, courtesy of the airline and Omega World Travel. The winning contestant must pull three special balls from the water, marked with the letters U, A and L. Only SOFA status personnel are eligible to participate in the Pool O Prizes.
