Killer calls cops after strangling his victim

Date Posted: 2006-06-16

A lovers quarrel in Nishihara Town turned deadly after the woman declared the relationship ended.

An emergency call to Urasoe City’s ambulance and fire station calling for help “Something is wrong with a woman, please come and help her!” turned out to be the voice of the killer. Medics found the 37-year-old woman lying on the floor, and took her to the hospital. She was pronounced dead on arrival, and doctors found strangulation marks on her neck and throat.

Police quickly determined the suspect, Misao Shinzato, was Mika Nishihara’s boyfriend. The two had reportedly been fighting after she wanted to call off the relationship. Angry, he reportedly said “No, I don’t want to stop,” then strangled her with his bare hands. Shinzato had been with her several days before the incident, and both had been drinking. Children present in the apartment at the time told police about the fighting.

Shinzato has confessed to the murder.
