Date Posted: 2006-06-02

The US Army on Okinawa will join with soldiers around the world next Saturday in commemorating its 231st birthday.

The 10th Area Support Group is sponsoring a Birthday Ball at the Butler Officers Club June 10th, 5~11pm. The Army commander says it’s going to be a memorable evening of dinner entertainment and dancing.

Colonel Anthony Williams says this year’s theme is ‘The American Soldier’. “From 1775 until today, the Army has protected and fought for the Nation’s freedom,” Williams points out, and adds “every year we want to recognize the Soldiers who served, remember our heritage and honor those who are currently serving today.

The Commanding General for U.S. Army Japan and 9th Theater Support Command, Major General Elbert N. Perkins, will be the guest speaker. The III Marine Expeditionary Force Quartet will provide the evening’s music. The event is open to all active duty service members, veterans, Japanese dignitaries, National Guard, Reserve, Department of the Army civilians, retirees, family members, government contractors and invited guests.

Tickets are $30 for E-6, GS-7 and below, and $35 for E-7, GS-8 and above. Reservations can be made with Major Andrew S. Durbin, 641-3800, or First Lieutenant Amanzio Brady, 641-2886.
