Village leader nabbed for corrupt behaviorDate Posted: 2006-05-27 Iheya Village deputy mayor Kunio Miyagai was arrested on charges of malpractice in conjunction with ordering village offices officials to perform illegal actions, padding budgets to inflate expenses. Prefecture Police say Miyagi asked a car dealer to inflate an invoice to the village by ¥1,730,000, a sum he then used to buy himself a car. They say Miyagi has admitted to the charges. Miyagi’s home has been searched, and documents seized in conjunction with the investigation, which involved purchase of six garbage trucks and a sedan at a cost of ¥13,220,000. No decision has been made on charges being filed against the collaborating car dealer. |
