Rainy season to drag on through June 23rd

Date Posted: 2006-05-22

Itís beginning to rain.

And it wonít end soon, according to the Okinawa Weather Meteorological Observatory, which announced the rainy season is finally here. Itís 12 days late, says the observatory, and will gradually become more intense. This week, weathermen say, the rains will be light.

At the same time, forecasters are keeping a wary eye on a typhoon which has churned its way northward over the Philippines and Taiwan, bringing rain to the Okinawa area. They say it will be the unofficial beginning to the typhoon season, which officially gets under way June 1st.

May and June rainfall is predicted as the same as past years, and forecasters say the best course of action is for everyone to carry an umbrella. One witty meteorologist pointed out that even if it is sunny when you go out, it will rain when you leave home without an umbrella.
