NGO doctor warns against worldwide spread of hunger

A doctor who has been active in Pakistan and Afghanistan for the past 17 years gave a lecture on Jan. 19 at Okinawa University in Naha, warning that the hunger currently ravaging Afghanistan could strike worldwide. Tetsuo Nakamura, a member of a nongovernmental organization active in the stricken area, told his audience that it is unacceptable for the United States to have bombed Afghanistan knowing that there were 1 million people dying from hunger there. He also alleged that the Western media had only reported on some of the upper-class voices that had protested against the ousted Taliban government.
